The object of the paper is the problem of human embodiment as a universal cultural phenomenon. The author aims to demonstrate the influence of cultural context and the discoursive evolution on reception and interpretation of the body as a biocultural wholeness. The thesis's target is to utilise the interdisciplinary potential of culture studies, which looks at the human being from the perspective of both sociocultural and physical anthropology, philosophy and history, to verify a hypothesis that culture as a superorganic system or extrasomatic context of symbolates is a specificaly human mode of corporeal existence
