Bilingualism - Symmetry and asymmetry in the linguistic development of bilingual children. Decisive factors among siblings in a bilingual family.

The present Bachelor thesis deals with the general approaches and diverse forms of bilingual education of siblings in a bilingual family. The different research approaches will be defined in the work and their specific differences will be described. In the theoretical part of the Bachelor thesis is the comparison of scientific studies about the so-called mixed bilingualism from the perspective of different linguists. On section is dedicated to refute myths about early bilingualism that bear scientific grounds. The practical part of the Bachelor thesis is based on the collection of information in multilingual families with at least one parent whose native language is not the language of the social environ of the children. Part of the analysis is to create an accurate profile of the families in order to better describe and distinguish the specific results of the different families. The aim of this Bachelor thesis is to state important factors that can lead to an advanced symmetrical or asymmetrical use of the languages for bilingual children, as well as to inspire bilingual families with the case studies on what approach can be used to raise bilingual children
