Italian theatre of the Grotesque

(in English) This bachelor thesis deals with the portraits of three authors of Italian Grotesque Theatre in the years of 1916-1924, such as Pier Maria Rosso di San Secondo, Luigi Chiarelli and Luigi Antonelli. The introductory chapter presents the theatre and analyses authors' unique poetics, which, however, cannot be perceived as the programmatically defined theatrical movement. The first section of each chapter is dedicated to the authors' biographies, the second part to the analysis of their best known plays, such as Marionettes, what a passion! (1918), The mask and the face (1913), The man who encountered himself (1918) in the order given. By doing that, the thesis tends to reveal significant features of the above mentioned authors' poetics and analyse the development and changes of the themes and the artistic devices used in their works. The final chapter summarises the gained facts and observations and compares the authors' production in the Italian theatrical context of the time
