The goal of this bachelor thesis is to make a translation of a selected french text (of about 20 standard pages) and to add a translator commentary to it. First part of the thesis is the translation of an article (La victoire était-elle inéluctable) about causes of the german invasion to France in 1940. The second part deals with the analysis of the original text (from the point of view of lexicology, syntax and stylistics), translation problems and the method of translation used. The commentary contains examples form both the original and the translated text
