Commented translation: Stages of developkent of Russian-Scandinavian relations: the genesis of Rus. (In: G.S.Lebedev, The Viking age in Northern Europe and Russia, Evraziya, Saint Petersburg 2005)

This bachelor thesis contains an annotated translation of an extract from the book by G. S. Lebedev Epocha vikingov v Severnoj Jevrope i na Rusi (The viking age in Northern Europe and Russia), published by Evraziya, Sankt Petersburg in 2005. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part contains translated text of two subchapters 9.4 and 9.5, which are parts of chapter 9 - Etapy razvitija russko-skandinavskich otnošenij: genezis Rusi (Stages of development of Russian- Scandinavian relations: the genesis of Rus). The second part is a commentary of the translation and is divided into four units. The first unit brings basic information about the book, his author, recipients and a language structure of the chosen extract. The second unit includes translation analysis of the source text at the stylistic, syntactic and lexical level. The third unit contains a typology of translation problems and determines an overall approach to translation. The fourth unit is concentrated on strategies for solving translation problems, specifis translation shifts and samples
