The presented thesis compares chosen energy industry sectors of the Czech Republic and Federal Republic of Germany and more concretely analyses the degree of energy security of both countries within the context European region. Theoretical background is based on the concurrence of neorealism with neoliberalism and can be identified as main driver of the European energy sector. The thesis had been written as a response to an unexpected shift of German energy policy from fossil towards renewable resources. This change sparked broad public discussion which questioned these concrete steps of German government with regard to the country's energy security.
