Causes of civil war in Korea

The thesis is a summary of what I studied about Korean War, the 20th century's first war led by the United Nations against an aggressor country and at the same time one of the most important milestones of the Cold War. The objective of this thesis is to provide an integrated overview of all the events and circumstances that led to Korea's partition and to civil war rather than to bring forward new findings. The first chapter describes the circumstances in Korea after the end of the World War II and the engagement given to Korea by the Allies in connection of the expected defeat of Japan. The second chapter focuses on different development of political situation in the north and south of Korean Peninsula. The third part provides an analysis of the situation in connection with international politics and the groundwork for a permanent division of the peninsula. The fourth chapter contains description of birth of two independent Korean countries, the fifth focuses on the years 1948-1950, when the tension between two hostile Korean regimes gradually escalated. In the sixth chapter I concentrate on the beginning of the civil war. At the end of the thesis I provide a summary of all important factors which predetermined the breakout of the conflict.
