Diagnostics and eligibility of students upon entry to primary school

This thesis deals with diagnostics of school maturity. It inquires to what extent the screening test of school maturity is able to predict the future school success of a child. Furthermore, it describes the problems of influence of gender, age, city and countryside environment, parents' education and completeness of a child's family on their success at school. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part defines the main characteristics of preschool age, deals with problems of school maturity, its diagnostics, it indicates possible impacts on school maturity. Finally, it describes school immaturity and school attendance postponement. The research part focuses on children's results from the screening test of school maturity and compares them with their marks in the first grade of primary school and indicates the predictive validity of the screening test using statistical methods.
