The thesis addresses the issue of nine Czech translations of R. M. Rilke's once extremely famous poem "Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke". The translations looked into were created over the course of ninety years, three of them belong to the pre-WWII era, six of them are post-war accomplishments. The method used is descriptive analysis and contextualization of individual translations, leading to a comparative analysis of the translations and enabling insights into the development of translation methods. The motivations of the translators are also dealt with, helping to answer the question why so many translations of "Cornet" have appeared in Czech so far.
