Hostivař and its Historic Monuments

Hostivař is a suburb on the outskirt of Prague. The first literary reference to this locality is dated from the year 1068 in Kosmas Chronicle. Until the 16th century, a mayor part of Hostivař belonged to the estate of Sázava Monastery. Hostivař passed through the hands of many owners since. Finally, at the end of the 16th century, Vilém of Rožmberk bought and added it to the estate of the Office of the Supreme Burgrave. This owned it until the end of the 18th century, when Hostivař passed under provincial administration. In 1922, Hostivař was incorporated into the so-called Big Prague and began to be administrated by Vršovice. Since 1994, Hostivař and Horní Měcholupy have been parts of a new district - Prague 15. Because of the river Botič, Hostivař and its surroundings have been very early settled. Due to this, Hostivař possesses rich history and valuable monuments. A protected area called Stará Hostivař was declared in 1993. There are other three significant monuments - The church of Stětí sv. Jana Křtitele from the 13th century and Toulcův Dvůr - a former medieval fortress which is an architectonical dominant of Hostivař.
