The aim of this paper is to show the importance of the United Nations development programme in the field of fighting against poverty in the world. As a UN agency which is dedicated to development, it is the No 1 partner of the underdeveloped states which need help in various areas of the development process, such as for example capacity building, assistance with the formulation of the national poverty strategies, financial assistance, creation of pilot projects or community programmes which can be used at the national level as well and so on.
