The objective of this bachelor thesis is to inform about development and the present form of the one child policy in China and about its consequences and to evaluate the potential of this policy in the future. It describes former forms of population policies and the circumstances and the reasons for the introduction of the policy. It identifies the targets of the one child policy, its program, the measures and the ways to exact the policy. Special attention is given to the results and the consequences of the one child policy. It examines the influence of the policy on the course of the national growth rate, the birth rate and the fertility rate and it mentions several positive consequences of the policy.
