Human SKIP/NcoA-62/SNW1 ortholog proteins are nuclear factors which have been found in connection with the regulation of gene expression and subsequent modifications of primary transcripts. Human representative SKIP acts primarily as a transcription factor during the processes involving differentiation, carcinogenesis and other cellular signaling. It operates in the signaling pathways, eg TGFß/Smad, E2F/pRb, Notch/CBF1 and nuclear hormone receptors. SKIP protein is also essential for pre-mRNA splicing and recently its contribution during the elongation phase of RNA polymerase II transcription and contribution to some HIV genes alternative transcripts formation has been identified.
