This poster represents my research exploring the (mis)representation of Muslims and Islamic Theology in the English Charlemagne Romance Cycle. The English Charlemagne Romance Cycle is a neglected body of medieval literature. Altogether the Cycle consists of ten verse romances and three prose romances spanning the 14th to the 16th century. The complete Cycle has never been analysed in terms of its representation of Muslims and Islamic Theology even though it is one of the most extended bodies of medieval literature written about Islam. My research is vital to expose the first understandings of Islam and of Muslims to be expressed in vernacular English.
