Hearing impaired people often point their eyes at a speaker in a conversation in order to get the benefit from the visual cues. However, this strategy may not be compatible with the typical microphone directionality of a hearing aid because it is fixed with respect to the head, not the eyes. Equipping hearing aids with eye-controlled beamforming may help alleviate this problem (Kidd et al., 2013), because hearing aids users may benefit from better amplification of the initial portions of the speech of the speaker to whom they switch their gaze.
