In pulse shaping filters, parameters such as the roll-off factor and the symbol span, which determine the overall performance, are of great importance when implementing a real-time system due to limited hardware resources. In this paper, we experimentally investigate a multiband carrier-less amplitude and phase (m-CAP) visible light communications (VLC) system employing such filters and assess the link performance for a range of filter lengths and show the relationship between the system data rate (or spectral efficiency) and computational complexity.
