The presentation will describe the context of a diminishing craft education at high school level and its subsequent ramifications at BA & MA level. It will examine the unique approach to the problem developed at CSM, exposing an innovative pedagogic practice and a philosophical approach to the medium of ceramics. It will explore teaching strategies, opportunity creation and diversity of output across 4 frames of ceramic practice as defined in the curriculum; -Meaningful engagement - public realm, participatory practice -Embodied Practice – installation, sculptural, expressive, conceptual works -Future Craft – research, materiality, new technology, internet of things -Connoisseurship – exemplary craftsmanship and design.
