The paper addresses the social aspects of the European integration process and the troublesome development of the European Social Model. The main question addressed is whether there has been a convergence between national member states through the development of a common European Social Model. The analysis shows there has been convergence until 2004 - the year in which the new EU member states joined the EU. Convergence took mainly place through learning from each other policies rather than imposing a top-down policy from 'Brussels'.
