Pengaruh Pemakaian Kontrasepsi Pil Oral Kombinasi Terhadap Ph Dan Volume Saliva Serta Angka Leukosit Cairan Sulkus Gingiva

Background : Combined oral contraceptive pills are widely used to prevent pregnancy. The presence of estrogen and progesterone hormones contained in the contraceptives will affect the oral environment, particularly on the saliva condition and the gingival of the users.Objective : To determine the effect of the use of combined oral contraceptive pills on the pH and the volume of saliva, and the number of leukocyte in gingival sulcus fluid.Methods : This research used analytical observational research design by using cross sectional research design. The subjects of the research were as many as 40 women aged 20-35 years, who were divided into 20 individuals in the group of the not users of contraceptive and 20 individuals in the group of the users of combined oral contraceptive pills in Kramas Village, Tembalang District, Semarang. This research began with the assessment of Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHI-S), and was followed by the measurement of the volume of saliva by using 1cc syringes and the measurement of the pH of saliva by using Hanna digital pH meter, whilst the retrieval of the gingival sulcus fluid used 1cc syringes with blunt-point needles (endo irrigation needles). Then, the number of leukocytes was calculated by using electron microscopy.Results : The result of the research with statistical test obtains a significant difference (p=0.000) with a higher average of pH of saliva, the volume of saliva and the number of leukocyte in gingival sulcus fluid in the group of the usersof combined oral contraceptive pills, compared to the control group.Conclusion : Based on this research, it can be concluded that there is an effect of the use of combined oral contraceptive pills on the increase in pH and the volume of saliva, and the leukocyte number in gingival sulcus fluid
