SEAFOODplus is probably the largest ever research project on seafood. It is funded by the European Commission, which contributes four million euro, and European research and industry groups contributing a further 12 million euro. It has a nominal four and a half year lifespan and includes 70 partners in 16 countries. It is organised into six Research and Technology Development (RTD) areas(named ‘pillars’), and a further six Information Technology and Development (ITD) pillars. SEAFOODplus has provided a major boost to seafood research in Europe and may spawn similar activities in other regions.
