SEAFOODplus: international seafood research

SEAFOODplus is probably the largest ever research project on seafood. It is funded by the European Commission, which contributes four million euro, and European research and industry groups contributing a further 12 million euro. It has a nominal four and a half year lifespan and includes 70 partners in 16 countries. It is organised into six Research and Technology Development (RTD) areas(named ‘pillars’), and a further six Information Technology and Development (ITD) pillars. SEAFOODplus has provided a major boost to seafood research in Europe and may spawn similar activities in other regions. Its existence gave the impetus for the formation of a Cooperative Seafood Research Centre in Australia.
