In 2013, the technical division "Measurement and Automatic Control" of the Association of German Engineers founded a new technical committee working in the field of Virtual Commissioning. In 2016, the first results have been published in the new guideline VDI/VDE 3693 providing definitions for possible test configurations, test methods and simulation models for the simulation-based validation of control code for automation systems. The forthcoming second part of the guideline presents a workflow for integrating Virtual Commissioning in industrial automation projects. It describes the related activities, documents and roles of the involved parties. Additionally, an outlook on future work of the technical committee will be given
