The Silicon Drift Detector is well suited for secondary vertex reconstruction, particle identification and tracking of low-momentum particles in the ALICE experiment where will be in central Pb-Pb collisions reached very high particle multiplicity. The ALICE SDD performance was studied during beam tests carried out at the CERN SPS facility.
