A modified Bridgman furnace is designed and fabricated to grow large bismuth crystals up to 6 cm in diameter. The crystal perfection has been assessed using the non-destructive microhardness and etch-pit techniques. It is observed that the crystals of 2, 4 and 6 cm diameter grown by this method are homogeneous and of the same standard of perfection
