Anisotropy in microhardness on (111) cleavage plane of bismuth single crystals has been studied by Vickers microindentation hardness technique. The results of variation in the hardness due to rotation of [101] direction are presented. The symmetry of plane gives rise to the peaks in the plot of the angle of rotation versus hardness curve. The slip direction [101] is the softest direction and corresponds to minimum value of hardness in the curve
