Objective: To investigate the risk factors related to accidents with needlestick materials present in the work of the nursing technicians of the urgency sector of a public hospital. Method: Descriptive study, with qualitative approach, conducted with 14 professionals. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews, from July to September 2010, and analyzed by the categorical thematic analysis. Results: The categories that emerged from the interviews were: Situations of urgency and emergency, adherence to the Personal Protective Equipment, carelessness and improper storage of needlestick materials.
