LAOP 2016, Ruta N, Medellin, Colombia, 22 - 25 August 2016 ; http://www.osa.org/en-us/meetings/topical_meetings/latin_america_optics_photonics_conference/The eye is a fascinating optical system, yet its performance gets compromised with age and disease. Myopia affects 25% of the population (90% in some Asian countries) and its prevalece is raising. Presbyopia, the age-related loss of the crystalline lens to accommodate near and far, affects 100% of the population over 45 years of age. Light-based technologies and optics allow us for a better diagnosis and treatment of the eye. Future optical technologies hold promise for restoring sight and will be key in improving eye care for all.Peer Reviewe
