Unemployment in time of crisis

Original title: Werkloos in crisistijd Economic recession has an impact on the Dutch labour market, influences the incomes of people who lose their jobs and affects their sense of well-being and their behaviour. This exploratory study presents a number of empirical data gathered by SCP on these topics. First it looks at which groups are at greatest risk of becoming unemployed; are these the 'usual suspects' (young people, members of ethnic minorities, the low-skilled), or is the current crisis also affecting different categories? The study then looks at the consequences of unemployment for people's incomes, exploring the changes that have taken place in Dutch unemployment provisions over recent decades and describing the consequences of unemployment for disposable income. Finally, the study looks at the influence of the economic climate on people's sense of well-being, as well as on rates of marriage, divorce, births and suicide
