An anthropological essay on a religious movement in the Swedish-Finnish border region. The article is based on a period of intensive fieldwork in Norrbotten in the summer of 1973. This orthodox-Lutheran movement, inspired by the Lutheran parson Lars-Levi Laestadius (1800-1861), has many adherents among Finnish immigrants and Samen in Sweden. Nowadays his most orthodox followers show in their lifestyle remblances but also some striking differences with the Amish and Hutterites, living in Canada and the USA
