In the past, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) have been successful primarily through equipment of the vehicle and infrastructure. However, for the safety aspect, the vulnerable road user (VRU) still has a 68% share in traffic fatalities. Therefore, more attention should be given to ITS for VRU safety. In current Cooperative-ITS (C-ITS) systems, warnings can only be sent when there is a direct risk of a collision, in which case it can already be too late to prevent. Sharing of infrastructure sensor information and adding destination information to the CAM can be used for preventive measures.
