Purpose: Ceramic materials, first introduced in restorative dentistry in the late 18th century, offer a wide range of possibilities and exhibit esthetic properties. The last systematic reviews on the subject of ceramic inlays were published in 2003. All articles published up to 2001 were surveyed regarding the longevity, esthetic qualities, and postoperative discomfort associated with the use of ceramic inlays compared to other restorative materials. The present review aimed to establish the current state of the art.
