This thesis describes the development, implementation and results of an intervention targeted at two of the above-mentioned factors: caregiver characteristics and resources (knowledge and coping abilities) and social support. Furthermore, some insight is afforded into the state of the art of international intervention studies concerning caregivers of cognitively impaired elderly persons. Finally, some of the problems encountered in developing and executing intervention studies for this group of caregivers are addressed
