Assemblies of Polyoxometalates Polyoxometalates, or POMs for short, come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some of them are among the largest inorganic molecules known today. These molecules can be highly symmetrical and, as the name already implies, consist of (mainly) metal (molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, iron, etc) and oxygen atoms in the form of metal oxide polyhedrons. Although individual POM molecules are in itself already a very challenging field of research, assemblies of POMs have great challenges of their own.
