Overwegend onderweg : de leefsituatie en de mobiliteit van Nederlanders

Mostly mobile - life situation and mobility Which are the effects of social developments on mobility? What is the impact of demographic shifts and economic and spatial trends, and what are the effects of changes in lifestyle and daily activity patterns? Which differences are there in daily routines and mobility between various population segments (e.g. man and women, young and old, ethnic minorities, and urban versus rural)? For which reasons people are underway, and how and why people go about in their leisure? How do people perceive their daily mobility routines? These are the topics of this dissertation, which is inspired by earlier research of the Social and Cultural Planning Office of the Netherlands (SCP). The study consists of four parts, about different aspect of the life situation of the Dutch and their daily mobility behaviour. In the first part all sorts of developments and trends are being discussed: developments in social-scientific research on mobility (chapter 2), demographic, spatial, economic and social-cultural developments and trends (chapter 3), and changes in activity-patterns and daily mobility behaviour (chapter 4). The second part discusses social differences in mobility behaviour, with special attention to the mobility of the young and elderly (chapter 5), mobility of man and women (chapter 5), mobility of ethnic minorities (chapter 6), and mobility of urban and rural inhabitants (chapter 7). In the third part motives for being underway are analysed, with special attention for leisure mobility (chapter 8, 9 and 10). The last part describes subjective aspects of mobility, and more specifically the experiences and attitudes people have in using their car, bicycle and public transport (chapter 11)
