Add to ORKGBarium anomalies in drainage sediments can act as indicators of barite mineralization and as pathfinders for lead-zinc mineralization. Their detection in an arid climate has been investigated in two areas of Saudi Arabia, by mineralogical and geochemical means. At Rabigh, 150 km north of Jeddah, barium anomalies found in wadi sediments reflect barite veins that occupy Tertiary faults in Precambrian metavolcanics and granodiorite. In the Wadi ad Dawasir area, 650 km southeast of Jeddah, the sediments of wadis draining the Jabal Tuwayq escarpment have been found to contain crystals of barite and anomalous concentrations of barium derived from diagenetic barite in siltstones and shales of the Sudair Formation. -from Author
