Research in the area of network interconnection is believed to show a gradual shift from fundamental aspects, such as principal internetworking problems and modelling, to protocol design with performance considerations. This paper discusses a flow control method with particular concern to improved throughput, transit delay and reliability on the one hand, and moderate complexity and overhead on the other. The discussion is conducted on basis of a formal description of the protocol. It is concluded that the proposed method allows to balancce different aspects of performance
