In this paper we discuss features of hybrid dynamical systems based on the hybrid automaton model. Next we describe an alternative way of representing hybrid systems by event-flow formulas. Finally, a special class of hybrid dynamical systems, called complementarity systems, is discussed, and conditions for existence and uniqueness of solutions are reviewed
