This article analyzes the main characteristics of several alamedas sited in different Latin American cities, especially during the last decades of the 18<sup>th</sup> century, when the new urban regulations were applied by the Bourbon monarchs, and the first half of the 19<sup>th</sup> century. Some aspects about the construction of these spaces and their physical characteristics are exposed in the first part of this article; paying special attention to the new concept of City resulted from the enlightened ideas.
