Efficiency analysis of expenditures with public education in elementary education in the state of Paraná

This article aims to evaluate the efficiency of public spending on education in the early grades of elementary school districts in the State of Paraná, in 2005 and 2009, through the application of technical Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Cities were classified as to the efficiency of spending on primary education, and it was possible to make comparisons between the municipalities and mesorregion. The results suggest that in most municipalities of Paraná public spending on education are inefficient, which demonstrates the need for review by the public administration means of allocating resources
