The reliability index ß is a parameter used to estimate the safety of a structure or an element during the design stage or service. This parameter defined in other codes in the world (European Committee for Standardisation (Eurocode), EN 1990:2002; American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), 2012), is not specified in the Colombian Code of Bridges Seismic Design (CCDSP-95) (1995).
