Las huellas del Cosmographicus liber de Petrus Apianus

The present paper investigates two editions of Cosmographicus liber, one of the most recognized and widely disseminated work by the German humanist Petrus Apianus (1495-1552), which addresses topics like astronomy and world geography. The paper analyzes the first edition printed in 1524 in the German town of Landshut as well as a Spanish translation, published in Antwerp in 1548, which includes certain additions and corrections that were made by the Dutch scholar Gemma Frisius (1508-1555) to the original text. On the basis of the visual culture of the XVIth century, this essay reviews the characteristics of the content, its publishing history and the context of the work. From the analysis of some typographic forms and images, it seeks to identify, describe and interpret the role of visual resources and their transformations within the editions under scrutiny
