Issues related to the application of semantic web to knowledge representation (KR) are discussed. Some of the assumptions underlying current KR technology that need to be revised when applied to semantic web are described. Areas which require future research include variable quality of knowledge, diversity of content, distributed authority, and multiple knowledge sources. Techniques for the local containment of inconsistencies will become much more important than they have been in current KR research
