Objective. This investigation explored the associations of parenting (Study 1) and aspects of the parent-adolescent relationship (Study 2) with adolescent emotion regulation (ER) difficulties, and the potential moderating role of adolescent gender in these associations. Method. Adolescents reported on their mothers' parenting, on negative interactions, and support in their relationship to their mothers, and on ER difficulties. Results. Results show that maternal control (especially psychological control) and the quality of the mother-adolescent relationship is significantly associated with adolescent ER difficulties in expected directions.
