The purpose of the studies described in this thesis was to examine the relationship between physical activity, dietary intake and nutritional status in elderly women.Background of the study was a lack of knowledge about the existence of nutritionally unfavourable pathways associated to the age-associated decrease in physical activity, leading to either overweight or nutrient deficiencies.A physical activity questionnaire was adapted and validated for use in elderly people and applied to perform a cross-sectional study in independently living apparently healthy women aged 60 to 80 years.
