[The concept of citizenship in Vico as a manifestation of the link between the universality of the law and the empirical historicity of “civitas”]. The purpose of this paper is on the one hand to reformulate the highlights in which Vico expounds his particular view of citizenship, in the frame of the problem of the conjugation between principles and historical empiricism, between the universalism of fundamental rights and the assessment of historical and cultural differences; on the other hand, it attempts to actualize some theoretical and methodological points of Vico’s philosophical approach that, although inevitably linked to its times, can still – problematically – provide us some kind of guidance
