THE ACCENTUATION OF i-VERBS IN THE DIALECT OF TAMICA (ONEGO DISTRICT, ARKHANGELSK REGION) IN THE CONTEXT OF LINGUISTIC GEOGRAPHY

<p>The article deals with the accentuation of <em>i</em>-verbs in the dialect of the village of Tamica (Onego district, Arkhangelsk region) in comparison with the data of the other dialects of Arkhangelsk region and the Olonets (Karelian) Russian dialects. East Slavic isoglosses of an accentual curve B*, a characteristic of i-verbs in the dialect of Tamica, are pointed out. The peculiarity of accentual curve B* is the columnar root stress of the present/future forms (1 sg. <em>xozu,</em> 2 sg. <em>xodis,</em> past perf. part. <em>xozeno,</em> past <em>xodil,</em> imper. <em>xodi(te),</em> inf. <em>xodit’).</em> It is attested in several small areas of Russian dialects: in the dialects near Gdov, on the Southern coast of the Onego lake, in few Arkhangelsk dialects; in a bigger area covering the Ryazanj and a part of Vladimir region. The innovation in question must have appeared in these two groups of dialects independently. It is also known in a big area in the South-West of Ukraine, in the dialects of Galicia, Bukovina and Carpatian mountains. The dialectological atlases of East Slavic languages were used to find out if the formation of the accentual curve B* is connected with the unification of phonemic structure of the present/future verbal stems in East Slavic dialects. The attempt of historical interpretation of the accentual system of i-verbs in the dialect of Tamica is based on the data confirming that this dialect belongs to the Pomorian group of North Russian dialects. The features and isoglosses of the Pomorian group are discussed in the article. The data of expeditions and of Arkhangelsk Regional Dictionary were used.
