This article is part of a master’s degree research in process that aims to study the formation and expansion of the caipira dialect in the area of Piracicaba. In the present study, some linguistic aspects described by Amaral (1920) as belonging to the caipira dialect were selected for a subsequent comparison with some linguistic forms found in public documents of Piracicaba in the century XIX and confirmed through historical grammars. This way, we attempt to demonstrate that many linguistic aspects today considered as being mistakes committed by people of the rural area or with low education, were in other times linguistic forms used in official public documents and it was part of the norm standard of the time
