Abstract The aim of this research was to describe the level of alcohol consumption in university students. 336 students selected from a random stratified sampling took part in this cross-sectional study. AUDIT (Vera & Gantiva, in press) instrument was applied to the entire sample and a survey to identify social and demographic variables. The results showed that 6% of students were abstainers, 52,1% have a low-risk drinking, and 38,1% high-risk drinking and 3,9% are likely to experience alcohol dependence. The research also showed more problematic consumption in student between 17 and 14 years old and in those upper strata and male.
