Background: Effective non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is dependent on optimal ventilator settings for alveolar ventilation. Volume-assured pressure support (VAPS) is a mode of servoventilation, providing constant automatic adjustment of pressure support (PS) to achieve a target ventilation.
