The aim of this study was to determine a possible correlation between humoral immune responses shortly after vaccination and protection against foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) infection and to study the serological and mucosal antibody responses after vaccination and infection. We used three groups of ten pigs, one non-vaccinated group, one group vaccinated with a single dose vaccine and one group vaccinated with a four-fold dose vaccine. At 7 days post vaccination, five pigs per group were challenged intra-dermally with FMDV O TAW 3/97 and the remaining pigs of each group were contact-exposed to the inoculated pigs.
