The effects of fixed orthodontic treatment to changes impacted teeth angulation

Impacted mandibular third molar teeth are often found in patients with orthodontic treatment. In orthodontic treatment , extraction cases of impacted third molar teeth is usually done, but often the patient refused this extraction. Extraction of premolars have a good influence on the mandibular third molar angulation during treatment. This study is a retrospective clinical study with descriptive analytic to see the effect of the first mandibular premolar tooth extraction to the angulation changes of the mandibular third molar in orthodontic treatment with a standard edgewise method. Angulation changes seen from comparing the mandibular third molar angulation before and after orthodontic treatment with panoramic radiographs . Angulation of the mandibular third molar teeth is calculated from the angle formed between the long axis of the tooth with the reference line infraorbita. The sample comprised 60 of impacted mandibular third molar region of the left and right regions of the 30 patients who had been treated at the clinic declared cured orthodontic PPDGS of Dentistry Padjadjaran University. The sample was divided into three groups of patients before treatment angulation of the mandibular third molar teeth under 30°, 30° to 60° and above, then measured changes in angulation and see whether if it increased, fixed or decreased. Results were analyzed by t- test and Wilcoxon tests showed that there was a significant changes in angulation of the mandibular third molar in orthodontic treatment with mandibular first premolar tooth extraction. The conclusions of this study is the first mandibular premolar tooth extraction affect the angulation of the mandibular third molar teeth after orthodontic treatment
